Awesome Turned 3D Sculpture – Osage Orange

I’ve had this oddly shaped Osage Orange cookie laying around for some time. It wasn’t really usable for a conventional turning because of the holes and bark inclusions. So I decided to cut it into pieces on the bandsaw and see what I could do with it. I had the idea of making an artsy wall hanger. I turned each piece and incorporated turned grooves and other designs. I also wanted to turn some of them off-center. Things didn’t always go according to plan, but all in all, I’m happy with the end result. Once turned, I glued all the pieces to a backer and each other. I finished the piece with 4 coats of shellac. And I LOVE it! The finish is awesome! The piece is 12″ wide and is 11″ tall. I think it came out quite nice. Enjoy. If you have questions, feel free to contact me. Thanks for watching.
