Woodturning – Spalted Sycamore Vase

October 26, 2022 By Billy Burt Sr Off

I was asked to demo my hollowing tool and technique by Worldwide Woodturners (worldwidewoodturners.org). I bought one of Tim Yoder’s Elbo Tools and slightly modified the mounting method. I used what I believe to be spalted Sycamore for this project. I got it ready for the hollowing by first turning it round and then shaping it. I hollowed it during the demo, but forgot to record the process so the captured video isn’t the same qality as the first and last parts of the video. I finished the vase with a new product to me. I used Martin Sabaan-Smith’s Hampsire Sheen. And I LOVE it! Very nice finish! The vase stands 7.5″ tall and is 4″ wide. I think it came out quite nice. Enjoy.
