How to Turn & Carve a Cane – How I made mine
May 31, 2021
I’ve had a few requests to turn a cane. If you watched my previous video, you saw me turn and carve 5 other cane blanks. I was approached by a friend who donates canes to those who need them. He asked me if I would take his Birch blanks and apply embellishments of my choosing. I chose this one to keep for my own so I could take one from start to finish. I roughly turned it to reveal some of the wood under the bark while leaving as much bark as possible. Then I carved designs into it and turned the bottom to accept the cane tip. Then I took a piece of Fallow antler and shaped it for the handle. This included turning a ferrule from a cast brass plumbing fitting. I finished the whole cane with a resilient oil finish. If you have questions that I didn’t answer, feel free to contact me. Thanks for watching.
