Turned & Carved Birch Canes – DIY Wood Canes

May 25, 2021 By Billy Burt Sr Off

I’ve had a few requests to turn a cane. Then I was approached by a friend who donates canes to those who need them. He asked me if I would take his Birch blanks and apply embellishments of my choosing. The cane bodies in this video are the result. I roughly turned them to reveal some of the wood under the bark while leaving as much bark as possible. Then I carved designs into the blanks and turned the bottoms to accept the cane tips. I made sure the bottoms of the blanks were the correct diameter for the tips up to 3 to 4 inches so the recipient can cut them to length as needed. I finished them with a resilient oil finish. If you have questions that I didn’t answer, feel free to contact me. Thanks for watching.
